The Story
A cross-country flight and marathon in December 2019 led Coast Guard veteran Kristina Smithe to identify a specific environmental challenge: the large volume of disposable cups used at running events and during travel. After calculating the combined cup waste from her flight and marathon, multiplied across all participants, she launched Hiccup in 2020 β a reusable cup service focused on reducing single-use waste at running events.
The Pitch on Shark Tank
Hiccup Reusable Cups for Runners appeared on Shark Tank (Season 16) in 2025. Coast Guard pitched the product to the Sharks.
