How to buy shoes online that actually fit

Measure, read the reviews for sizing, and know your last.

Short version: Measure your foot in the evening, in centimetres, and buy to the brand's size chart — not your "usual size". Sizing varies wildly between brands and styles.

Get the measurement right

Stand on paper, trace both feet (they differ — fit the larger), measure heel to longest toe in cm, late in the day when feet are largest. Match that to the brand's chart, which is more reliable than a US/EU number.

Read sizing reviews

The single best signal online is other buyers saying "runs small/large/true to size". Two people with your foot type telling you to size up is worth more than any chart.

Width and shape matter too

Wide feet: look for D/2E widths or brands known for roomy toe boxes.
Narrow feet: avoid styles reviewers call "wide".
Check the return policy before buying — the safety net for online shoes.
