How to choose a Korean sunscreen
Why K-beauty SPF is the one people actually re-apply — and how to pick.
Short version: Korean and Japanese sunscreens win on finish — they feel light and invisible, so you wear them daily. Aim for SPF 50, PA++++, and a texture you genuinely like.
The best sunscreen is the one you will actually re-apply. That is the whole reason K-beauty SPF earned its following: the formulas are cosmetically elegant — no white cast, no greasy heaviness — so daily use stops feeling like a chore.
Read the label
- SPF 50 / SPF 50+ — protection against UVB (burning). 50 is the practical sweet spot.
- PA++++ — the Asian rating for UVA (aging) protection. More plus signs = more UVA defense.
- Chemical vs mineral — chemical filters feel lighter and blend clear (great for daily wear); mineral (zinc/titanium) is gentler for reactive skin but can leave a slight cast.
Match it to your skin
- Oily/combination — look for "fresh," gel or watery finishes.
- Dry — "moist" or hydrating SPF doubles as a moisturizer.
- Sensitive — mineral or low-irritant chemical formulas with Centella.
- Makeup wearers — a tinted SPF can replace foundation entirely.
Whatever you pick, use enough (about two finger-lengths for the face) and re-apply if you are outdoors. A cheaper sunscreen applied generously beats a luxury one you ration too sparingly.
