Wireless earbuds under $50 that are actually good in 2026

Three years ago, $50 wireless earbuds were universally bad. In 2026 they're actually good. Here are the ones I'd recommend without caveats.

I tested seven pairs of sub-$50 earbuds over the last six months. Most were forgettable. Three were genuinely good. Here's the honest take versus what people actually use them for.

The clear winner: Anker Soundcore P40i at $40

The Anker Soundcore P40i sound better than 3rd-gen AirPods at a quarter of the price. ANC works — real ANC, not just passive isolation. 60-hour total battery with the case. App-based EQ. The build is plastic but doesn't feel cheap.

If someone asks me what to buy without context, this is the answer.

Runner up: EarFun Air Pro 4 at $50

The EarFun Air Pro 4 are nearly tied with the P40i but with slightly better call quality and a smaller charging case. Sound profile is bassier. If you take a lot of calls, get these.

If you lose earbuds: JLab Go Pop ANC at $25

The JLab Go Pop ANC are remarkable for $25. ANC is mediocre, sound is fine. Reason to buy: you lose earbuds constantly and don't want to cry about replacement cost. Gym bag, jacket pocket, car cup holder — this is the disposable layer.

What to skip

Generic Amazon brands at the $20 mark with names like "JBLE" and "Boltune". The reviews are bought, the build quality is awful, the batteries die in 6 months. The P40i on eBay for $30-35 is a better play than any unknown-brand "ANC earbud" at the same price.

When to spend more

If you commute on planes or trains regularly, save up for Sony WF-1000XM5 ($230) or AirPods Pro 2 ($200). The ANC difference is night and day. For coffee-shop or home use, the P40i is genuinely enough.

Accessories

Replacement Comply foam ear tips dramatically improve any cheap earbud's seal and bass response. $15 well spent. Skip the silicone replacement tips — they're identical to what came in the box.

Honest pick

Anker Soundcore P40i for $40. Best $40 you'll spend on audio. Period.
